Why Drive From LA to Las Vegas
Let's start out with the timing of driving to Vegas vs. flying to Vegas.
- Driving takes approximately 4 hours (give or take, also depending on the route)
- The flight is 1 hour and 15 minutes (+ the hour you have to be at the airport before hand)
The flight time also doesn't include the time to get to the airport or to get to the hotel once landing, so let's say it takes about 3 hours at best. That's only an hour shorter than driving. Now this also doesn't take into consideration any inconveniences such as loosing luggage, the flight being delayed (or cancelled all together), or sitting behind a screaming child the whole time.
In addition to this, the drive itself is quite peaceful as you're surrounded by mountains and open plains as soon as you leave the city. There are also many places to stop along the way that have some notable landmarks, such as the worlds largest Thermometer, Route 66 and Death Valley (if you want to venture out a little further)
If you want to get a bit more of a holistic US experience, I highly recommend thinking about driving as you get to see some true American landscape
